Student Feedback
The instructor is flexible, respectful, passionate, and accessible. His teaching style meshes extremely well with mine, and I could not have asked for a better coding teacher.
Professor DiMatteo is very good at making the material fun and digestible, while also incorporating student suggestions & techniques into the course, so it really feels like everyone is contributing to learning together!
The classes were well-organized and relatively easy to follow. The instructor also provided a lot of supplementary materials for the subject, which made learning more effective.
The teaching style was amazing! Every topic that was covered throughout the semester had a clear understanding of what was being taught. Everything was well-detailed and easy to follow. I learned a lot! Thank you! (more teachers need to teach like this honestly)
Matthew is an excellent teacher! I highly recommend his classes to everyone. He genuinely cares about his students and is dedicated to helping them succeed.
I believe my instructor has one of the best teaching styles in the whole school.
He provides a lot of encouragement and energy to the class that I very much appreciate.
I find a lot of things valuable with this professor's teaching. He always has the slides posted before classes, and explained them thoroughly during class. He also provides interesting and helpful in-class discussions. The coursework is also very managable with other classes and if you are having an issue with the coursework he is very accommodating and helpful no matter what the circumstance is.
He's just the best professor, kind, helpful, understanding, literally no one tops him.
The professor does an excellent job in his teaching methods and research.
I hope to have him again in the future. He makes my day better after having his class.
He cares for his students and ... accommodates students better then most teachers have.
The informal atmosphere of the class made me feel comfortable in sharing my thoughts.
This was no doubt one [of] my favorite class[es] this semester ... even at 8 in the morning.
Attending this class was often the highlight of the school week. There were so many interesting conversations that came out of this class that I will carry with me for a long time.
He actively listened to the class and the ideas that students had. He also made sure everyone understood the weekly topics with examples and videos to help further explain the idea which really helped me.
The instructor was very enthusiastic and engaged in class discussions, he would often ask thought-provoking questions ... he’s well-versed in what he teaches and is a very clear communicator.
The instructor does everything in his power to set the students up for success. He reminds them about class and gives them his slides to review by email every week. He is accessible in office hours and shares his passion of video games. He gives ample answer and then some if asked a question, making sure the student understands and knows they are listened to. The course itself is a bundle of creativity that fully exceeds its learning objectives. It is also gamified in a way where students can pick and choose avenues on what to do concerning coursework.
Matt was very kind whenever I needed help with an assignment or whenever I submitted an assignment late, he would still grade it in a timely manner and give constructive feedback, which I was not accustomed to from prior teachers.
I loved the slides the most, as it is something I can keep to always look at and review in the future, and as a whole, I love how the professor combined both lecturing with breaks and the ability to just have fun as well. This experience as a whole has been really valuable and memorable.
Professor DiMatteo is the best professor, instructor, and teacher, that I have ever had in my entire life, he will remain my favorite, if everyone was like him schooling would be enjoyable.
Professor DiMatteo cares about all of his students and thoroughly explains everything that we need to learn.
Having the slides [posted online] made it so I didn't need to worry about taking notes and I was able to engage with the course.
My instructor was very generous and encouraged to turn in all work even if its late. He was very organized and on topic.
My professor's teaching was inspiring.
Matt really knocked it out of the park with this one. Classes were engaging and assignments enhanced both my technical and creative skills. Providing the slides to us before class was also a big plus.
I really liked being able to turn in play-test points in exchange for passes on some assignments, it allowed me a lot of flexibility with my workload and made my other courses much more manageable.
Due to how flexible the class has been, I was able to produce quality work (in my opinion) with just about all of my assignments.
Literally my favorite course of the semester, I looked forward to it every week and I look forward to further classes with this professor.
His willingness to help with other classes within his realm of knowledge and the time he takes to get to know each student [were valuable]. I could not have asked for anything better.
He made it a very fun and enjoyable class, and did his best to make everyone feel welcome and important.
He always went over exactly what everyone needed, and made sure everyone knew exactly what they needed to do, going above and beyond to help students.
The lesson organization and course structure were incredibly well done and helped me engage with the material.
The instructor provided a comfortable learning environment while being easy to talk to.
Professor DiMatteo's organization with his Google Slides was probably the most valuable to me! It kept everything contained in one place on Canvas for me to look back on if I forgot anything.
Your Canvas structure and class presentations are incredibly beneficial and my favorite thing from a course.
Just the best professor in the world. Knows everything about all topics being discussed and more, has extreme amounts of care for his students, is extremely dedicated to teaching students and being part of their works, has a large amount of passion for the game industry as a whole, and generally just the example all professors should follow to be a great instructor for their students.
I really loved where we analyzed a game and provided a presentation. I realized how much I love talking about games from an analytical standpoint and made me actually consider going into academia in the future.
Professor DiMatteo was super nice and really cared about the mental health of his students. He created a friendly and fun environment to learn in.
There was a relaxed environment that I believe made most people in the class feel like they can talk and ask questions ... everyone was comfortable talking in the class.
I loved how much hands on stuff we did, and I felt there was ample time to complete said assignments.
I also greatly appreciated how forgiving Prof. DiMatteo was with due dates. I was trying out tutoring this semester and the flexibility was really necessary for me in order to turn in good work.
Matt is a great professor. He's very chill and very willing to listen to his students - especially about deadlines and projects. I would absolutely take him again, and hope I can take a class where he's teaching again at some point in the future.
This instructor provides very thorough feedback on every submission to help students improve ... He also provides ample time to do assignments and help with assignments if you ever have any questions. He also works to make a really good bond with his students. I have been able to make a connection that I think is very valuable and I'm happy that I was able to make this semester.
Professor was very accommodating and respectful. He gave very valuable and helpful critiques on students' assignments.
His confidence and respect for everyone means a lot which makes everyone willing to learn and push their limits.
His energy and his knowledge in the material makes you feel comfortable with learning ...
One important aspect was sending us emails every week about what we were doing ... it had us all going in with the correct mindset for the course for that day. It also helped a lot having the slides [posted online] so I could go back to them when necessary.
He was very helpful because he answered all of my questions thoroughly and helped me through steps as well.
He has been very helpful with addressing questions that are given to him in class, and helping students understand the material in the best way possible.
The instructor's caring and understanding of each student is very valuable to me. He is very easy to talk to which makes it easy to ask any questions about the course.
Walking through the lessons and also taking time to walk through things like color symbolism and font use have taught me a lot.
Thank you for all the site links [to further learning resources]! They will prove incredibly valuable!
Matt's consistent and well detail[ed] power points are a godsend, especially if you are behind or have questions about a previous topic.
His kindness and flexibility are absolutely valuable, especially when there were bumps in the road. He had knowledge of what he required of us and was incredibly helpful in all aspects.
Having the slides for each week available at any time were incredibly helpful when trying to remember how to do specific things in the animation program!
Matt, you are one of the kindest and most accommodating professors I've ever had, thank you from the bottom of my heart!
I love Prof. DiMatteo! He's so chill and very flexible with coursework. Anyone can tell that he loves what he does. His teaching style is relatable to all students and he never excludes anyone. I love filmmaking and I genuinely believe that this class only increased my love for it even more.
I think the last part of class where we had to get into groups and create our final film project was the most valuable, mainly for the purpose of it being a hands on learning experience to teach what it is like to record an actual film when all the necessary steps and supplies and equipment are ready to go.
I was definitely able to talk with and be honest with the professor ... I really appreciate his understanding nature.
DiMatteo was very nice and a really personable guy to have as a teacher. I would definitely enjoy taking more classes with him.
Most valuable thing is being able to do the work while the teacher was doing it. It help my understanding in the programs I haven't used before. I also like sharing our projects with each other because it allowed me to be inspired by other people work. Also even if something was not the best he would encourage us.
Extremely descriptive teaching makes it easy to learn
I love the teaching style of the instructor.
The organization of the entire course was very useful in understanding what was expected and when it was due. Also, the very clear instructions and expectations for each assignment or project definitely aided in understanding what I needed to do.
Matt has given us great feedback and insights during reviews of our coursework in class. I have thoroughly enjoyed his lectures and have looked forward to going to this class.
Giving us until the end of the day after class to work on projects and giving us the opportunity to share our work with others without forcing us to show off was really nice.
I would say the Google Slides were the most valuable things he provided to us having tons of explaining and examples to help us students out.
Taught by example, used each program to show the steps to how to use it. The slides were always available before and after class, so if I missed something in class I could look at the slides to see how to do something. Gave us a chance in class to present our work and gave us feedback in class.
Always kept us engaged and was honestly very funny.
It was easy to follow the lessons and I enjoyed the creative freedom with the assignments. I also enjoyed that the grading was based on effort because I know I did always make the best things, but I worked hard on them.
Matt gave us a lot of freedom in the curse with our projects. This allowed me to pursue my interests and grow in the areas that I needed to.
I appreciate how the presenting your work on the previous assignment at the beginning of class sessions felt open and inclusive. I did not feel nervous sharing my work to the rest of the class.
I loved this course a lot and it has helped motivate me to work on some of my hobbies and passions outside of a class/work environment and I'm really thankful for that!
I had fun and created some pieces I am really proud of! Thank you for a great year :)
Outstanding Teacher and truly cared about the students and their projects!!
This course was incredibly enjoyable because of the interesting assignments and care from the instructor
Matt was definitely one of my favorite professors this semester as he made sure to lay everything out in a clear and understandable way. He made sure to go over the basics plus more of each program we utilized in this course with detailed powerpoints. It definitely aided in my understanding of each program, especially as a first time user. Matt's enthusiasm for teaching was also greatly appreciated as he wanted to make sure everyone did well and tried their very best.
I LOVED THIS CLASS!! And, the main reason was because of the professor. He has a great balance between being a professor and making sure you get your work done, but also being a friend and being there when you need assistance with school work. He is very understanding, and wants to make sure you are not only completing assignments because it is required, but you are learning something valuable.
I really enjoyed the project reviews we would have at the beginning of every class and all the programs we touched on in the course. I feel it is very well rounded and you come out knowing a lot and building more experience.
Did a great job at covering the entire curriculum and enriching the students in a multitude of programs and media.
Professor DiMatteo was very open minded on the intentions of the art we made for him.
The course was fun and informative. Prior to this class I had little knowledge of some of the software apps that we used in class. Now I feel comfortable with everything I learned and I will definitely use what I learned to help me in the future.
The instructor was well organized and prepared for class each week. The slides sent before class were extremely helpful and I could look back on them if I was confused with something. The
instructor was also thorough when presenting new topics in class.
I really loved the class and everything we did in it. I really want to keep doing things like this.
Professor DiMatteo rocks!
If I had to recommend a professor to a student in IMM, it would be him!!
Prof. DiMatteo had exceptionally well made and neat slides for every class; which he went through during each lecture and were easily available online. The readings for the course supplemented
what we were learning and were pretty much focused on in his presentations for the lecture. He'd also engage me and the rest of the class with questions on the subject(s) depending on what we
were learning. One of the BIGGEST values I've taken from the course however is the two classes spent on teaching us real industry practices. Ergo how to become a game designer in the industry,
how to pitch a product, ect. I found that learning how the retail value of games actually pay for a lot more than just profit and how little developers actually see of the payout. It was all very enriching
and valuable to me, who's very inclined to put a foot in the video game industry.
The instructor was passionate about the course material, and they encouraged us to do our best. The brainstorming sessions were creative and fun.
A very accomodating and clear learning environment
Assignments were extremely interesting and a thrill to complete!
This class shaped up to be one of the most impactful classes I've taken in IMM.
I think he's really well equipped to teach this class not only knowledge based, but also just his personality is welcoming and encourages you to speak about what you're passionate about.
If I could, I'd probably take more classes taught by Matt. I've always been looking forward to his classes.
His level of enthusiasm and interest in the course combined with his positive attitude helped be both engaged and comfortable with the class and the work.
I think that he is very knowledgeable on gaming and gaming related stuff . . . that helped class move along really nicely to make it fun.
Professor DiMatteo's interest in all of our games that we made for class made me feel so proud of what I was able to accomplish. He truly just wants the best from his students and loves to see them succeed.
He's knowledgeable in many aspects outside of what the course material covers, so he's able to answer some other partially related questions that students have about game concepts and designs.
Please allow him to teach this and other gaming related classes more often.
The instructor is absolutely terrific at being both clear and straightforward with what is needed to succeed in the class. What has been most valuable is how not only is he very enthusiastic with helping each student become more passionate about their project but he also is able to give vital information on how to properly work and communicate within a group working on a games project.
Definitely one of the greatest instructors that I could've had for this course. He has been very open to every team's ideas for their project, and would be available to get advice from for challenges with working as a team. Available to communicate outside of class, and is overall a great person to be around!
I really appreciate how Professor DiMatteo explains the topic he's teaching in an easy-to-follow manner. He is extremely well-prepared and his powerpoints are super helpful when following along in class. He is accessible outside of class as well and I can tell that he has a curiosity and passion for web design that I think has also rubbed off on me! This class has truly spiked my interest in web design and I wish I wasn't graduating so that I could learn more from him!!! Wonderful professor and although there is a large amount of subject matter, he is able to easily walk us through it and make web design less scary then it initially seems.
Just overall had a very nice time taking this class and it made me want to delve deeper into the subject matter! He's a great professor, keep him around forever!
All course material was very organized with links and images. Canvas was organized and prepared already, all assignments were already put on Canvas with descriptions and instructions. This is how I feel a Canvas page should be. All course materials labelled and nicely organized. All Assignments already created and have detailed description and instructions. It was perfect and I loved it. I would definitely take this course again if I could.
